Welcome to the Geriatric Medicine Society of Malta
Welcome to the official web site of the Geriatric Medicine Society of Malta (GMSM), a non-governmental association committed to improving the health and well being of older persons, to developing geriatric medicine as an independent specialty and to advocating evidence-based recommendations on expected standards of care.

The GMSM was established in the year 2005 following Malta’s accession into the European Union. It was set up by a group of doctors working in the field of geriatrics mainly to ensure that geriatric medicine was represented in any local discussions and decisions on specialty training and accreditation and also to enable Maltese geriatricians to forge links with similar international organizations. The GMSM has been officially recognized by both the EUGMS and the UEMS-GMS since the year 2006 and representatives of the Society regularly participate in Board meetings of these European bodies.

It is hoped that by functioning as a channel of information, this website will be of benefit to members of the GMSM and any other individuals or associations interested in the specialty of geriatric medicine and the quality of care given to older persons.
